Clinical/academic activities for foreign medical students/residents/physicians

Clinical rotations could be done between May –December.  A minimum period of  four weeks is recommended but the final decision on the entire period duration will be done by the participant. Acceptance will depend on spot availability (consider that during July-September, there is an important number of interested people, some of them get registered with one year of anticipation).

The participant will  join our team of infectious diseases and tropical medicine doctors and other students and professionals in the daily activities taking care of adult patients.

The program includes outpatient clinic during mornings and in-patients counsults during afternoons from Monday to Saturday. On Tuesdays, formal academic activities are done including journal club, clinical rounds, and case presentations. Also, one hour-sessions are scheduled in different laboratories of the IMT. All these activities take place in the IMT located in Lima city from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm (Saturdays until noon).

If the participant would like to do some clinical practices for one or two weeks in the jungle, this could be done in Iquitos. In order to do the paperwork with Iquitos hospital, a minimum of one month is necessary. The participant will be responsible of all travel expenses.

If the participant comes between November and December during the  Curso de Enfermedades Infecciosas y Medicina Tropical  addressed to our medical students, his/her activities will depend on the course activities which includes: clinical sessions (8.00 am – 11.00 am), lectures at noon, and laboratory sessions/case conferences during afternoons from Monday to Friday. The course lasts 5 weeks, during four weeks the activities are done in Lima and one week in Iquitos. The course will be next November 14 – December 16, 2011.

IMPORTANT. All activities are in Spanish. There is no possibility for simultaneous translation. Medical students who speak English may be interested in the Lumbreras Tropical Medicine Course  (all teaching is done in English).
