1- ABOUT THE TUITION

Could I pay the tuition by check or credit card?

No. You can not pay it by credit card, check or cash.  You need to do a wire transfer.

How could I know that Cayetano Heredia University received the money transfer?

It usually takes 1 week to confirm the reception of money.  We will send you an e-mail confirming the reception.

When should I send the registration fee?

You will be registered after sending the registration form filled and the registration fee (non-refundable $250) at any time after the registration starts (July 1st, 2009). Acceptance of the course will be entirely on a first-come basis.

When should I send the rest of the tuition?

The remaining course tuition ($750) will be due 60 days prior to the course (by January 30th, 2010)

Could I send the total of the tuition to be registered?

Yes.  You could send the total of the tuition ($1000).

Does the course tuition include housing payment?

No. The course tuition only includes the transport for the two-day field trip to La Merced


2- ABOUT HOUSING

Which housing options exist? Which is the cost?

There are some possibilities:

Home stay with a Peruvian family (aprox, $150-$200 per month)

Foreign students'  houses (aprox,  $200-250  per month),

Hotels (aprox. $20-50  per night)

Apartments (aprox $1000-1500 per month)

If you are interested, we could send you a list of housing options.

Are housing options close to the hospital?

No, but public transport is easily available and inexpensive.   


3- ABOUT THE IMT AvH

 Where is located the IMT AvH ?

IMT AvH belongs to Universidad Peruana Cayetano  Heredia but it is not located in the main university campus. IMT AvH is located in the Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia  (Av. Honorio Delgado s/n, San Martin de Porres, Lima).

Will I have access to internet at  the IMT AvH facilities?

A room with computers (including internet connection) will be available for all students. Also, a printer and paper will be available for the participating students during the course.

During my stay in the IMT AvH, will my personal things be safe?

Yes. A locker key will be delivered to each participant the first day. Your personal things will be safe if you leave them inside the locker. Do not leave your wallet, laptop, camera, etc. outside your locker.


4- ABOUT THE TRIP TO LA MERCED

When is going to be the trip to La Merced?

It is going to be the last two days of the course (April 29-30).  We are leaving on Wednesday 28 at night. The trip takes 8 hours.

 Which vaccines are necessary?

 Yellow fever is mandatory (at least 10 days before the trip). La Merced is an endemic area for yellow fever.

 Which preventive measure should I take to go to la Merced?

 La Merced is also an endemic area for malaria and dengue. Use of repellent (containing DEET) is mandatory.  


5-MISCELANEOUS

What kind of cloth should I wear?

For clinical rounds, you will need formal clothes. The temperature in Lima is 18-22oC, and in La Merced 28-30oC

 Do I bring a white coat?

 Yes. Also you could bring your stethoscope and any other tool for physical exam.

 Will I receive any study material during the course?

 Yes. You will receive a binder with some reviews and treatment guidelines the first day of class. Also a handout will be delivered in each lecture.   

 Could I receive Spanish lessons during the course?

No, any Spanish lesson is included as part of the course. But, we could contact you with a Spanish teacher.
